- The minutes, reports, yearbooks, programs, newsletters, scrapbooks, and photos of an organization dedicated to promoting music in the city of Detroit since 1885.
Biographical/Historical note
The Tuesday Musicale of Detroit was founded in 1885 by twelve women who wanted to promote good music in the city. The Tuesday Musicale presents ten Tuesday morning concerts each season, a Student League concert, a Christmas concert, an Annual Artist Concert, a President's Tea, and an Associate Members Tea. The Tuesday Musicale offers music scholarships at the University of Michigan, Wayne State University, Oakland University, and the Detroit Community Music School. Scholarships are also given to the Tuesday Musicale's student group known as the Student League. Since 1885 the Tuesday Musicale of Detroit has enabled opportunities for the musically talented in the Detroit area to become better known. Many outstanding artists, both composers and performers, have presented works at the Tuesday Musicale's concerts. Talented performers from Europe and other parts of the United States have come to Detroit to perform in the concerts and some local performers began their careers in concerts with the Tuesday Musicale.

The Performer's Photo Album contains autographed photos of many performers at Tuesday Musicale concerts and also includes photos of early leaders of the society. The 60' Anniversary and 100'" Anniversary Celebration scrapbooks show the history of the organization and highlight the events of that year. Program books are scrapbooks containing the programs and announcements of concert series. |
