Biographical/Historical note

Born in Pittston, Pennsylvania on August 8, 1898, to Adolph Andronik and Zofia (Sophie) Harasiemowicz. After her father's early death, her family moved to Detroit. She attended Sweetest Heart of Mary Church and school, where she completed the 8th grade. About 1923, she opened the Katinka Dancing School with her cousin, Elsie Konieczny, and conducted annual programs for her pupils at Dom Polski, in which both teachers also performed. It was located at 5245 Chene. Earlier she had joined a repertory company that performed between Detroit, Cleveland and Buffalo, and used the stare name of Maria Kucinska, her first husband's surname. She was a member of the Society of Polish Artists. She remarried on November 22, 1924. One daughter, Ann (Mrs. Lee Uldrych) was born of this union. She performed later in a daily radio serial on Wachtel's "Polish Variety Hour," WJLB, as announcer and lead. Much later, she opened a woman's apparel store, the Florentine Shop on Chene and Medbury.
