Biographical/Historical note
The Association of Black Judges of Michigan was founded in 1980. Article II of the Association's articles of incorporation describe the purposes for which the Association was founded. "The Association shall exist for the education, the encouragement and the support of its members and the public in their individual and collective efforts to achieve the following objectives; the eradication of racial and class bias from all aspects of the judicial process; continuing judicial education in all areas of the judicial process through meetings, seminars, conferences and forums for the exchange of judicial experiences.., involving the communities we serve in the processing of objective information about the operation of the courts, thus improving the public confidence in our courts." The Association of Black Judges of Michigan Papers consist of four boxes and one large manuscript folder. The Papers contain minutes, correspondence, reports, memoranda, records of various Association activities, photographs, and press releases.
