Biographical/Historical note
Michigan Secretary of State from 1875-1878.Ebenezer Gregg Danforth Holden was the son of Josiah and Johanna Holden. Their family history is available in the collection of E.G.D. Holden's grandson, W. Sprague Holden (see MS/Holden, W. Sprague). E.G.D. Holden worked in the insurance business in Grand Rapids, Michigan before going into law and, later, politics. He was among the organizers and trustees of the Grand Rapids Savings Bank in 1870. He served as Prosecuting Attorney for the State of Michigan from 1863-1866 and Secretary of State from 1875-1878.
