Biographical/Historical note
Laurie Lindemulder Harris was a pianist and teacher in the Detroit area before moving to Houston, Texas. She was befriended by many prominent women in the music profession, mainly from Detroit and Michigan. This collection contains letters written to Ms. Lindemulder from these women and other artists. Ms. Lindemulder was one of the founders of the concert series "Music for a While" held at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe Woods. Other founders included Betty Peterson, Alice Ellison, Janet Young, Ann Wallace, Louise Gall, Nancy von Oyen and Ginny Shover. Letters from all but Ms. Gall may be found in this collection. Among the correspondents are: . Nelita True, a University of Michigan graduate who became Head of Piano Department, Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York. A concert pianist and teacher, Ms. True was the first American pianist to teach at St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia. She was also pianist and faculty member of National Music Camp, Interlochen, Michigan. Marie Joy Curtiss was chairman of Music Education Programs, Syracuse University School of Music and music teacher at Southeastern High School, Detroit. Gizi Szanto was well-known concert pianist and teacher in Detroit, and faculty member of the Interlochen National Music Camp. Alice Ellison was Ms. Lindemulder's piano partner of many years.
