- Robert Downie was a Detroit-area builder. He and his wife Margaret had four children. The youngest, Elizabeth, became a dentist after being one of only two women in her University of Michigan Dental School class. She received her DDS in 1934 and was the first woman in the state to join a national dental fraternity. She practiced dentistry in Detroit's David Whitney Building for nearly fifty years. Dr. Downie died in Arm Arbor on January 19, 1995 at the age of 88.Robert and Margaret Downie were the founders of the Detroit Get-Acquainted Club, and were active in its affairs for many years. Robert Downie was 85 years old when lie died in Grosse Pointe on November 1, 1952.

- This collection contains record books of Mr. Downie's real estate business. It also includes papers of the Detroit Get-Acquainted Club, 1919-1956.
