Biographical/Historical note
The Garden Lover's Club of Northwest Detroit was founded in 1932. A group interested in forming a garden club met for the first time on 11 April 1932. at Cooley High School, Detroit. The club was considered a "couples club", and at the first meeting 8 couples attended. The club continued to meet over the next 29 years at the homes of members. The club was both a social and education organization. The papers reflect the interests of a group of friends over the course of their clubs existence. Various roll calls over the years include th names and addresses of the members. The club name was originally Garden Lover Club, but was changed in 1937 to Garden Lover's Club of Northwest Detroit.
