Biographical/Historical note

Opened in late 1899, the Arnold Home for the Aged and Hospital for Incurables was located on W. Fort St. in Detroit.,It was run as a charitable institution by Rev. Charles L. Arnold. A Kentucky native born in 1855, Rev. Arnold and his wife Lurana had one daughter, Mabel. Mabel married John T. Thompson, the manager and owner of a grocery store. Mrs. Thompson managed the Arnold Home after her father's death on February 25, 1925. The Fort St. building was razed in 1916 and the home moved to Selden Ave. In 1931 there were two facilities, one on Selden and the other on Grand River Ave. By 1933 a bigger facility was built on W. Seven Mile Rd. Arnold Home was converted to a private nursing/convalescent home. After changes in ownership, the home was closed in 2001.
