Biographical/Historical note

Moral Re-Armament was a movement that grew out of a program created at Oxford University by Dr. Frank Buchman in 1921. Supported by students and senior members of the University, leadership developed in the various colleges. As the influence of the work spread throughout Britain, it was assigned the name Oxford Group by the British Government. The Oxford Group was "a Christian revolution... [whose] aim [was] a new social order under the dictatorship of the Spirit of God..." Moral Re-Armament grew out of these origins to increase "moral and spiritual standards in men and nations as the only hope for a democratic world." The purpose of Moral Re-Armament was to arouse in the democracies a thinking and living adequate to the threatened impact of total war.A finding aid is available to assist researchers.
