Biographical/Historical note

Formed on February 18, 1916, primarily to perpetuate Polish culture by observing its traditions, customs and language in order to preserve and enhance the status: of Polonia and make a meaningful contribution to the improvement of the local community and country. Originally the membership was limited to 100; today, the limit is 150 professional Polish males (descent on male line) living in the Detroit metropolitan area. They built their first club house in 1926, located at E. Grand Blvd. andamp; Elmwood. In 1964, they bought the former site of the Sibley Lumber Co. at 5181 E. Outer Drive. In 1984 they expanded and modernized their present facilities. It is the most popular site for Polish recreation in SE Michigan, including banquets, receptions for dignitaries, weddings, etc. Even many local civic organizations have utilized these handsome facilities. (from B. Markowski) (blue index cards)
