Biographical/Historical note
A native of Hamtramck, and obtained his basic education there, he later received his Masters in Education and Juris Doctor's degree from Wayne State University. A former teacher and lawyer, he has been active with several Polonia organizations: Polish American Congress, and its Sentinel Committee, Advocates Club of Detroit, and Institute of Polish Studies at Saginaw Valley College, and the Polish Day Parade Committee. He ran unsuccessfully as Democrat for the 7th state congressional district in 1954 & 1956. He also received recognition by President Gerald Ford in 1976 on the Assay Commission; Governor W. Milliken named him to the Medical Practice Board in 1977, and the Saginaw Valley College Board of Control, in 1979. In 1980, he was awarded the Polonia Restituta medal by the Polish Government in Exile, along with other honors. In 1984, he was admitted to the noble Order of Malta, at the Grand priory in Toronto, Canada. He is a collector, and has become an authority of Polish coins, decorations and stamps, and authored many articles. He received the Roethke Memorial Senior Literary Award, in 1974; and the International Numismatic Award, in 1975. (from Benedict Markowski) (blue index cards)
Scope and Contents note
Articles by Majewski, scrapbooks, pamphlets, clippings, photos, and other items, relating chiefly to Majewski's coin collecting; together with articles, reviews, and publicity on his reminiscences, When Hamtramck and I Were Young (1986). Includes papers of his wife, Marianne Rytlewski Majewski, relating to her political activities in Wayne County, Mich., and with the Michigan Republican Party.
