Biographical/Historical note
DeWitt Clinton Holbrook was born in Riga, New York in 1819 and came to Detroit in 1836. He worked as a clerk in the post office before studying law. He was admitted to the Michigan bar in 1843, becoming a county clerk in 1846. Holbrook was reputedly the busiest lawyer in Detroit, working as city counselor from 1872-1878. He died in Detroit on Mar. 13, 1892.
Scope and Contents note
Papers are chiefly legal in character, pertaining to real estate and mining investments, settlements of estates, etc.
