Biographical/Historical note
James Henry was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on March 13, 1771. He went into business in 1795, entering into agency with James O'Hara, an army contractor. Henry began a business of his own in 1798. When the contract was taken over by Ed. Thompson of Philadelphia, Penn., Henry went to work for Thompson. He established a tannery in Detroit in 1798 with General John Wilkins as a partner. Henry was appointed justice of the peace in 1798; supervisor of roads in 1801; overseer of the poor, 1802; judge of Court of Quarter Sessions, 1802; county commissioner, 1804; tax assessor, 1807; associate judge of Court of Huron & Detroit, 1807. James Henry died on December 29, 1812.
