Collection Inventory +/-Biographical Note/Historical Note +/-Julia G. Moore, a nationally known poetess and author of articles on American history, was born in Tarboor, North Carolina. Her father was acting president of Trinity College (now Duke University), and Mrs. Moore was a pioneer women graduate of the University of North Carolina. As well as writing poetry and articles for many publications, Mrs. Moore was a noted artist. Many of her paintings have been exhibited at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Mrs. Moore was a past-president of the Detroit Society of Women Painters & Sculptors. She was a member of the Detroit Museum of Arts Founders Society, the New York Museum of Art, the Detroit Artists' Market, the Detroit Historical Society, the Hereditary Order of Descendants of Colonial Governors, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her husband, Frederick Moore, was the publisher of Tooling & Gaging, a journal of the machine tool industry. Julia G. Moore died in Detroit October 1962, at the age of eighty-three.
